GOVERNOR APPOINTS RANCOURT TO TENTH JUDICIAL DISTRICT
(St. Paul, MN) Governor Jesse Ventura today announced the appointment of Robert Rancourt to a new trial court judgeship in the Tenth Judicial District. This position is one of five new district court judgeships created by the 2001 Minnesota Legislature and the first of two new judgeships the Tenth Judicial District received. The Supreme Court certified the chambers of this judgeship for Center City in Chisago County. Thirty-five people applied for this position.
Rancourt is a solo practitioner in Lindstrom. He has been a self-employed attorney since 1979. He was assistant vice president of commercial lending at the Casco Bank and Trust Company in Portland, Maine in 1979 and an associate counsel with Space Center, Inc. in St. Paul from 1977 to 1979. Rancourt earned his juris doctorate degree from Hamline University Law School in St. Paul in 1976 and his bachelor of arts degree from the University of Miami in 1973.
"Sometimes a person fits a position," Governor Ventura said. "Bob fits this position like a glove. He has lived and worked in the Center City/Lindstrom community for over 20 years and has tried many cases in the Chisago County courthouse. Bob will not have a huge learning curve because of his knowledge of the court's caseload."
Rancourt is a member of the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, the Minnesota Society for Criminal Justice and the Minnesota State Bar Association. He is also a volunteer youth baseball coach, a trustee for St. Bridget of Sweden Church and a volunteer speaker at high schools and grade schools.
Rancourt, 50, was born in Biddeford, Maine and resides in Lindstrom with his wife, Margaret. They have four children, Robert Jr., 24, Rebecca, 22, Joseph, 19, and Shawn, 14.
